Sommerkonzert

Dates

Only a few cello concertos have gained universal status: Antonín Dvořák’s is certainly one of them. Written in 1894/95 during his stay in the USA, it has found many admirers over time. Two ballet suites from the early and middle 20th century complement the programme: a series of pieces from Britten’s only ballet, »The Prince of the Pagodas«, which premiered in 1957, and the suite to Bartók’s dance pantomime »The Wonderful Mandarin«, which caused outrage at its premiere in 1926 for its uncompromising modernity, but which now ranks among the classics.
