Between his two great operas »Aida« and »Otello«, Giuseppe Verdi composed his »Messa da Requiem« in which his skill as a musical dramatist came to the fore. He set the libretto of this Latin funeral mass to music with a special tonal intensity and expressive nuance, which is divided between the soloists and choir as well as the large, gentle yet resonant orchestra.
