Among the instrumental concertos composed by Sergei Prokofiev, the »Sinfonia concertante« for violoncello is considered immensely challenging both technically and creatively. Written in 1950, it unites complex expressive moments with adept figurations. A good century earlier, Schumann composed his Symphony No. 2, which can be seen an homage to the revered »old master« Bach as well as to Romantic notions.
