SYMPHONY NO. 1 IN B FLAT MAJOR OP. 38 »SPRING«
PIANO CONCERTO IN A MINOR OP. 54
SYMPHONY NO. 2 IN C MAJOR OP. 61

Dates

All four of Robert Schumann’s symphonies have become standard in the repertoire of major orchestras. With his first Spring Symphony from 1840, the composer immediately found a musical expression that leans towards exuberance while remaining deeply romantic. His Second Symphony, composed in 1845–46, reflects his reverent study of Bach and Beethoven, whereas Schumann’s sole piano concerto demonstrates both his expressive range and his deep connection to his own instrument.
