Asian Tour 2026

The Far East—especially Japan—has long been a frequent destination for opera and concert tours by the Staatsoper and theStaatskapelle Berlin. As early as 1977, the orchestra, under its then-General Music Director Otmar Suitner, performed regularly in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, and other major cities; starting in 1997, it was Daniel Barenboim who led the orchestra in performances of operas (both staged and in concert) and numerous concerts, including complete performances of Wagner’s Ring tetralogy as well as major cycles of Beethoven, Brahms, and Bruckner symphonies. In 2016 and 2018, Shanghai and Beijing were also among the tour destinations for Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle—and now, just under a decade later, the ensemble is heading back to the Far East, to Shanghai in China, Kawasaki and Tokyo in Japan, and Taipei in Taiwan.
