Europa Galante
»MAILÄNDER QUARTETTE«
The city of Milan was already a high-ranking cultural metropolis during Mozart’s time and had a special significance for him. His great opera »Mitridate» was premiered here in 1770, and it was also here that he composed a series of early string quartets. Milan was the home of Carlo Monza too, the maestro di cappella who wrote operas as well as church and chamber music at the ducal court in the 1770s.
