The Advent Concert of the Staatsoper’s Children’s Choir has become a treasured tradition; in conjunction with performances by the Staatskapelle Berlin, the annual December programme puts the crowd in the Christmas spirit. Alongside well-known Christmas songs and carols from around Europe, this year’s programme features a 1908 work by the French conductor-composer Gabriel Piernés, »The Children at Bethlehem«, which tells the nativity story with vivid lustre and melodic imagination.
