PRÉLUDE À L'APRES-MIDI D'UN FAUNE
VIOLIN CONCERTO (World Premiere, Commission work of Daniel Barenboim Foundation)
PETRUSCHKA (Original Version 1911)
The young composer Benjamin Attahir, who was born in Toulouse in 1989 and studied under Marc-André Dalbavie, Pierre Boulez, and others, introduces himself with the world premiere of a new violin concerto. It is joined by works of two composers who breathed new life into music in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: Claude Debussy and Igor Stravinsky, who both introduced unusual timbres and tonal combinations to the orchestra – novel and unprecedented sounds.
