Schubert String Quartet Cycle

Franz Schubert composed about twenty string quartets, not all of which have survived. Original early works are included in this corpus as well as the three famous late quartets from the years 1824 to 1826, which rank among the undisputed masterpieces of the genre. On four evenings in the Pierre Boulez Saal, the string quartet of the Staatskapelle Berlin – all principals in their respective instruments – will present Schubert’s breathtaking music, which Goethe described as sounding like a conversation between »four sensible people«.
