Konzert im Pierre Boulez Saal I

Dates

The protagonists of the Second Viennese School around Arnold Schoenberg revolutionised music, not least Anton Webern, who worked with extreme artistic rigour such as can be heard in his »Variations for Orchestra« from 1940, his last composition for many instruments. Four decades later, George Benjamin wrote »A Mind of Winter«, a setting of »The Snow Man« poem by Wallace Stevens. The text and music carry off the listener to a fantasy world, similar to Hans Abrahamsen’s »Märchenbildern« and Maurice Ravel’s »Ma mère l’oye« that feature old fairy tales and legends.
