»ORFEO«

OPERA BY

Carl Heinrich Graun (concertante performance)

The myth of Orpheus is profoundly linked to the subjects of life and death. Numerous composers from the baroque period have taken up this legend, including Johann Hermann Schein and Heinrich Schütz, who worked in Leipzig and Dresden and were renowned in the music world during the first half of the 17th century. They flank two protagonists from before and after their time: Orlando di Lasso and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
