Through the newly founded Opernkinderorchester, the Staatsoper and Staatskapelle have supplemented the great dedication of the music schools of Berlin by adding an international platform. Working in close collaboration with music schools, they enable children between the ages of 7 and 12 to take part in the professional opera business, and support the children in their individual development. The children participate in voice rehearsals with the Staatskapelle’s music teachers and musicians as well as orchestra rehearsals under the direction of Max Renne. Rehearsal visits and workshops offer them glimpses behind the scenes. Concerts and performances are the annual highlight of their work. The Opernkinderorchester will perform in public for the first time at FESTTAGE 2019 under General Musical Director Daniel Barenboim, who has provided significant support to the project.
